Berytech Technology Pole, jointly with the EU-funded IMP?rove ? European Innovation Management Academy - launched a pioneer programme on best practice in developing innovation capabilities and competitiveness of small and medium enterprises in Lebanon.

The IMP?rove Academy, financed by the European Commission since 2006 consists of delivering a series of support services and hands-on tools aimed at improving innovation management capabilities and competitiveness of enterprises on a national and international basis. This programme identifies and targets companies with high growth potential, thus increasing their potential and value in the market.

More than 50 enterprises, consultants, intermediaries, policy makers, and financial investors active in supporting SMEs, as well as representatives of academic institutions, were present at the launching workshop, at the new Berytech Digital Park, located at Beirut Digital District in Bachoura. The participants gained first hand insights in innovation management support services, learnt more about successful approaches in developing national support schemes to develop effective innovation eco-systems and applied the wide spectrum of IMP?rove services.

Dr. Nicolas Rouhana, Director at Berytech, welcomed the participants and highlighted the role of Berytech, specifying its mission to stimulate innovation and support SMEs. ?In a world where technology is dominant, innovation is a must for SMEs in order to survive. Our role at Berytech is to encourage the innovation and to help startups and SMEs grow?, he noted.
Then, Dr. Eva Diedrichs and Ms. Ewa Ali, two experts from the IMP?rove Core team at A.T. Kearney, held sessions about innovation management, the support services offered within the IMP?rove and introduced the IMP?rove Awards.

Background:

The delivery of the IMP?rove programme will be divided into 3 phases for the beneficiaries:

  • Phase 1: ?Introduction to Innovation Management and the IMP?rove Approach? training, in mid-April
  • Phase 2: Practical experience: IMP?rove Assessment and innovation management benchmarking with competitors an SME (to be conducted between April and June 2013)
  • Phase 3: ?IMP?rove coaching on preparation for IMP?rove consulting? workshop, in June
The programme will have a strong impact in Lebanon, and will create a pool of well-trained Innovation counselors obtaining a European certification, apply the skills learnt to enhance the competitiveness and innovation of existing enterprises, and develop the innovation management culture in counseling approach.
