Right now, we?re in the age where futuristic gadgets have become present-day accessories. When Google announced ?Project Glass? a few months ago, ears perked up. The reception was divided?half of critics marveled at the idea while the other half laughed at it. The idea of having a computer infused with eyeglasses sounds like something straight out of a science-fiction movie, but by as early as 2014, the idea may not seem so far off.

Project Glass is considered ?Google?s attempt to make wearable computing mainstream,? providing the user with an ?augmented reality? designed to interact directly with real life. It basically acts as a smartphone with a transparent LCD positioned in front of the eyeball, but it interacts with the real world through the lens. The system, which will be compatible with most (if not all) features of your computer, will augment the things you see based on what you want it to do. For example, Project Glass will likely be GPS-enabled, so directions that you look up may appear in the form of arrows along the route you are walking on (driving while operating them is not recommended).

Naturally, there have been a few concerns with mass-producing such a device in regards to our safety. Some of the concerns include overindulgence in digital stimulation, driving while operating the hardware, or simply looking too nerdy. The glasses may make some people uncomfortable (as in the case of a Paris McDonald?s and the user of a device similar to Project Glass), so Google must satisfy these skeptics before releasing it to the public. Cost is another issue?some speculate that early models may cost around the price of a smartphone while others claim it could launch at around $1,500.

One final note: Project Glass is not to be confused with Google Goggles. Google Goggles is an application that allows you to scan words, product labels, and other items for price comparison and various other uses. Project Glass (or Google Glass) is what we?re talking about today.
